Check out what our customers have to say:
"I love it! I really like how all of the text is included and there are no additional books to buy.... I think it's a nice amount of work, particularly for older kids. I love that there are several different options for work to go along with the reading (vocab, questions, exercises, ways to get involved, etc.) because it gives so much flexibility to the parent and the ability to tailor it to your child." -Nicole T., homeschool mom from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
The lessons are well written and my kids and I find them interesting. I was glad I bought it! - Cynthia H.
My daughter is learning a lot. She is enjoying it. [This is] [i]mportant information to pass on to the next generation. Thank you for such a good program. - Gina H.
[The Unit Study] is concisely written, with details and explanation that are not overwhelming to someone with little government or political knowledge. [I also liked the] flexibility - [there is a] wide variety of student exercises to use or not use, links to many resources. [It is a] balance of providing enough information without being overwhelming. This has been a SUPER class at our co-op. Students have been able to take the class for high school credit, requiring answering questions in each category each week after reading the lesson, with a few projects over the course weeks, OR as an audit class with weekly reading and answering just a few questions. The students have thoroughly enjoyed articulating and defending their views, and challenging any different views of their classmates'. Not only will they be more educated voters when they are old enough to vote, but they also will be more aware of political events and how to assess them, have a better understanding of how the government is organized and operates, and be more prepared and able to communicate their political views. As the instructor of the class, I have enjoyed learning along with my students. The curriculum has broken into manageable pieces the presentation of the election process and its history, providing a flexible and fun tool to dig in and learn about this important part of our freedom to govern ourselves in the United States of America. - Karen B.
It is an excellent curriculum written very clearly. Great thought provoking questions. Gives the student the opportunity to dig deep and learn about the current election based on historical events as well as current ones. I love it!!!! Thank you!! - Claudina P.
We all loved [the unit study]. It was very interesting ([my children are in] 6th grade, 8th grade, sophomore). [I] loved the website links. [I] loved the photos and questions at the end... Excellent job. - Jessica B.
I found the Presidential Elections Unit by the Hummers very helpful for the civics class and AP American Government class that I teach. Information from each unit (especially concerning primaries, conventions, electors, and campaigning) will enrich the students’ studies of how Presidential Elections are organized. The websites listed in each lesson will help the students to be more involved in their learning about elections. - Jeannine Garber
The Presidential Elections Unit Study was clearly written by someone who really knows the election process. Students will probably find some of the inner workings of elections fascinating... Most parents are likely to learn something new as well...Presidential Elections offers a rare opportunity to capitalize on current events to make learning come alive. -Cathy Duffy www.cathyduffyreviews.com
The kids learned a lot when we added up the votes from each state and candidate from the primary elections. That way they could clearly see what was needed to win and why candidates would drop out at certain stages when it didn't look likely that they would be successful.Anothe r chapter we enjoyed concerned advertising campaigns and media. There were several references to television commercials of past elections which we were able to find on youtube. Since the unit was recently written, the material couldn't have been more up-to-date. I found this unit very educational and for $30, with the election right around the corner, the timing is perfect. - Jmommymom at High Hill Homeschool - http://highhillhomeschool.blogspot.com/2016/09/election-unit-study.html
This is a comprehensive study. We enjoyed learning about the Presidential Election in depth. The questions, exercises and suggestions for getting involved provided an academically rigorous study, while keeping their interest level high. My students have really enjoyed this study, and it has gotten them informed and interested in our Presidential Election in a whole new way. —Product review by Renita Bentz, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, LLC, October, 2016 - http://www.theoldschoolhouse.com/product-reviews/?rid=5836
